Cruefest 2....FUN!
Charm City Devils kicked off the main stage show with straightforward rock-n-roll. Their lead singer, enjoying the crowd's reactions, worked the crowd. The energy on stage and in the crowd continued to swell with Drowning Pool's set. The lead singer wielded his mike stand like a big baton, urging the crowd to sing along as he sang. It was a fun set.
Theory of A Deadman enhanced the crowd's energy, despite a few sound issues. They rocked the main stage. Godsmack took over the stage and the crowd, kicking it up a few notches as they actively involved the crowd, rocking and roaming the stage. Everyone was having fun. The "drum duel" was amazing.
Just when you thought the energy had to subside, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs - Ballet appeared. Curiosity about the drummer during "Dr. Feelgood" was soon resolved by the disclosure that Sevendust's drummer was sitting in for an injured Tommy Lee. The band continued to rock on.
Vince, Nikki, and Mick tore through "Dr. Feelgood" in its entirety with tunes like "S.O.S" and "Time For Change". Tommy Lee came on stage to apologize for his "stupidity", passed a bottle of Jagermeister to the crowd, and urged them to keep rocking, with or without the cast on his hand. The rest of their set was just as explosive with tunes ranging from "Shout at the Devil" to "Saints of Los Angeles". Their scantily-clad female background singers were pleasant additions to the set. A slight glitch during "Wild Side" was smoothly handled by the band. Tommy came back out with his piano for the "Home Sweet Home" encore, a fan favorite. The Crue is still the Crue!
The Monster Energy Second Stage, set up at adjacent PNC Pavilion, had a strong line-up but went unnoticed from Riverbend's pavilion. A video broadcast of the second stage performances for the Riverbend pavilion and lawn would have been nice but difficult as the bands overlapped.
Cruefest 2 was a fun rock show. Having been to Cruefest last year, I had high expectations and was not disappointed. The Crue put together another strong Cruefest. Can't wait for next year's!
